As a result of large-scale measures taken based on operational data received by the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, a case of smuggling of particularly large quantities of narcotics from the Islamic Republic of Iran to the territory of the Republic of Armenia was revealed and prevented. This is stated in a statement released by the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia.

In particular, as a result of complex operational intelligence measures undertaken by the employees of the Yerevan City Department of the National Security Service, it was revealed that RA citizens A.M. and S.S., with a preliminary agreement with an Iranian citizen, complementing each other's actions, on November 10 of this year, smuggled a particularly large batch of narcotics from Iran to the RA for the purpose of sale.

The members of the criminal group, having received the mentioned batch of drugs from an Iranian citizen in the border zone of the Armenian-Iranian state border, attempted to transport it to Yerevan, but were arrested by employees of the Syunik Regional Department of the National Security Service.

Based on the submitted report on the apparent crime and the attached materials confirming the relevant fact, a criminal proceeding was initiated by the Syunik Regional Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia. As a result of a search of A.M.'s car, 26 kilograms of narcotics were found (4.690 kg. "Methamphetamine" and 20.842 kg. "Marijuana"). Public criminal prosecution was initiated against the mentioned 2 citizens of the Republic of Armenia under the provisions of Article 46-399, Part 3, Clause 2, Article 399, Part 3, Clause 2, and Article 393, Part 3, Clause 2 of the Criminal Code.

A.M. and S.S. were detained as a preventive measure.

Taking into account the high degree of danger of the described act, the initiated criminal proceedings were transferred from the Syunik Regional Investigation Department to the Investigation Department for Crimes Against Human Trafficking, Sexual Immunities of Minors, and Illicit Drug Trafficking of the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.

During the preliminary investigation of the criminal proceedings, searches were conducted at the residences of the persons involved in criminal activity, as a result of which 2 pistols with their magazine cases, 5 loaded bullets, various doses of "Methamphetamine" and "Marijuana" drugs intended for sale, as well as counterfeit banknotes, suspicious vials, electronic scales and used syringes were found.

Notice: A person accused of a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia, by a court verdict that has entered into legal force.
