Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan's son detained again

The son of Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan, Spartak Ghukasyan, has been detained again. Channel 5 reports this, Sputnik Armenia reports.

The issue of Spartak Ghukasyan’s preventive measure was to be considered next month, but the prosecutor’s office filed a motion to schedule an extraordinary session. The court of first instance made a decision to detain him yesterday, and he was transferred to a detention center in the evening.

Lawyer Hovhannes Gharakeshishyan told the TV company that the court session was held without the participation of defense lawyers.

“We received a notice of the court session, but we reported that we could not participate due to our workload,” he said.

The lawyers have not yet received the court’s decision.

Spartak Ghukasyan was charged in November 2025. On that day, the Investigative Committee reported that during the preliminary investigation of the initiated criminal proceedings, public criminal prosecution was initiated against 1 person under paragraphs 1 and 3 of Part 2 of Article 297 of the Criminal Code (hooliganism committed by a group of persons using information or communication technologies).

According to the lawyers, the Investigative Committee had qualified Spartak Ghukasyan’s statement “this is air” made in the courtroom as hooliganism. The preliminary investigation body had found swearing in this sentence.

Let us recall that the son of the mayor of Gyumri has been under house arrest since October 2025.
