Jurgen Klopp returns to big football: official

The German Football Association (DFB) has officially announced the new head coach of the national team at a special press conference in Frankfurt. Jurgen Klopp has taken over the position, replacing Julian Nagelsmann.

DFB President Bernd Neuendorf said the 59-year-old's contract will start on August 15 and will run until the end of the 2030 World Cup.

"We see him as a person full of energy and a great desire for this job. He is a great motivator, a person who makes teams and players better," Neuendorf said during Klopp's presentation.

Another key appointment has been made in the German football governing body. 2014 World Cup champion Per Mertesacker has been appointed as the organization's sporting director, replacing Andreas Rettig.

"We have been negotiating with Mertesacker for a year and a half. "When such a vacancy arises, Per becomes a very interesting candidate. He has signaled that he is ready to take on this role," the DFB president said, adding that Mertesacker's official presentation will take place at the end of the year.

Recall that Jurgen Klopp's previous club was the English "Liverpool", which he led from 2015 to 2024. Before that, he successfully worked at Borussia Dortmund and Mainz.
