Mkhitaryan revealed that he could have ended up at another Italian club before joining Roma

Armenian footballer Henrikh Mkhitaryan, while being hosted at the "Sports Festival" in Trento, organized by Gazzetta dello Sport, shared his 2019 transfer story related to Milan. He revealed that he was close to moving to Milan before leaving Arsenal and playing for Roma.

Mkhitaryan said that in August 2019, his agent Mino Raiola offered him a choice between Milan and Roma in order to leave England.

"At that time, Milan was focused on Shakhtar's Tyson, and I was afraid that I would become their plan B. So I chose Roma, seeking the happiness I had always dreamed of," he said.

Five days later, on August 30, hours before the Arsenal-Tottenham game, Raiola called Mkhitaryan and said: "After the game, get on a plane and come to Roma to sign the contract." The player noted that the love and support of the fans at Roma was indescribable. "It was crazy, in the best sense of the word. I rediscovered the joy of playing football there," he added, laughingly noting that he felt more Italian.
