Dolores Aveiro, the mother of Portugal national team captain and star player Cristiano Ronaldo, has admitted she is shocked by the situation surrounding her son and his decision to leave the national team camp following a disagreement with head coach Jorge Jesus.

The legendary 41-year-old forward had left the national team camp prior to the Nations League match against Denmark (4–2) because Jesus did not intend to give him any playing time. On October 6, Ronaldo issued a lengthy statement emphasizing that the experienced coach had twice broken his word.

In an interview with *A Bola*, Aveiro did not hide her emotions and distress:

"I am sad, which is only natural; it was a real shock." "My son could have left through the main entrance, but he was forced to exit via the back door. It doesn't matter; God will watch over him. I shed a few tears—letting emotions out is good, too. We have to be able to overcome all of this."

The footballer's mother also revealed details about her first phone conversation with Cristiano after he left the national team camp:

"He told me, 'Mom, don't worry; I'll tell the whole truth when we're all together.' I replied, 'Alright, my son, handle it.' I urged him to stay calm, but his mind and emotions led him to a different decision. Let's see what happens. I offered him my full support, but it didn't help. Still, it's nothing terrible." "He has given so much to Portugal and has always been a true hero for the country. He simply isn't appreciated enough."

It is worth noting that Cristiano Ronaldo has played 234 matches for the Portuguese national team, scoring 146 goals.
