Nikol Pashinyan and Ilham Aliyev emphasized the progress made in the past year in the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia during a telephone conversation.

Aliyev and Pashinyan had a telephone conversation, at the initiative of the Armenian side, the Armenian government reported.

“On August 8, 2026, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan called President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

During the telephone conversation, the parties exchanged views on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Peace Summit held in Washington on August 8, 2025 with the support of US President Donald Trump, during which peace was established between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as the text of the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia was initialed.

The parties particularly noted the important role of President Donald Trump and the Government of the United States of America in advancing the peace process.

The parties noted the progress made in the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the past year.

During the conversation, the development of trade and economic relations between the two countries was emphasized as a tangible manifestation of the benefits of peace. In this context, the parties noted the export of Azerbaijani oil products to Armenia, as well as the transportation of transit cargo through the territory of Azerbaijan to Armenia and from Armenia to other destinations.

In addition, the parties exchanged views on the implementation of the TRIPP route in accordance with the agreements reached in Washington.

The parties emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to promote the peace process and ensure long-term peace, stability, connectivity and economic cooperation in the region,” the statement said.
