The oncologist mentioned the main signs of cancer in children

In a child, fatigue, weakness, loss of appetite, as well as fever can be signs of a malignant neoplasm. The director of the National Medical Research Center named after the Research Institute of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology said this in an interview with "Izvestiia".

In approximately half of the cases, malignant tumors in children, except for tumors of the central nervous system, are diagnosed without any symptoms.

"They are detected during certain examinations: blood tests, ultrasound examination, chest X-ray, screening in the first year of life, ultrasound examination of the fetus of a pregnant woman," he explained.

The remaining 50% of cases, according to Svetlana Varfolomeeva, are associated with a severe clinical picture. In addition to fatigue and weakness, this is a fever associated with something unexplained.

"The child has a fever, but there is no redness of the throat or disturbance of the functioning of organs and systems. The doctor takes a blood test and sees certain "red flags" that can help to understand that this is a tumor process, explained the doctor.

It is important to inform pediatricians that the child has a malignant tumor so that, if necessary, the child can be immediately referred for the necessary analyses, the expert emphasized.
