Archbishop Gisak has died

On October 25, Archbishop Gisak Muradyan, one of the most senior monks of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, passed away at the age of 74 after a long illness.

His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, and the Congregation of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin deeply mourn the death of the late Archbishop Gisak.

Biography of Archbishop Gisak

Born in 1951, Aleppo, Airia.

He received his primary education at the National School in Qamishli (Syria) from 1956-1963.

From 1963 to 1968, he studied at the School of the Heirs of St. James in Jerusalem.

In 1968 he was ordained a deacon, in 1971 he was ordained a celibate priest, and in 1975 he received the 4th degree of private doctrine from His Eminence Archbishop Yeghishe Terteryan.

From 1975 to 1990, he was the spiritual pastor of the St. Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral in Buenos Aires (Argentina) and the deputy director of the St. Gregory the Illuminator Educational Institution Preschool.

From 1982 to 1987, he enrolled in and graduated from Kennedy University in Buenos Aires.

In 1990, he received the degree of supreme patriarch from His Holiness Archbishop Torgom Manukyan.

In 1990, he was ordained and consecrated a bishop by His Holiness Vazgen I, Catholicos of All Armenians.

From 1990 to 2022, he was the Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Argentina.

In 1996, he received the honor of a hierarch by the Patriarchal Kontakion of His Holiness Karekin I, Catholicos of All Armenians.

From 1998 to 2002, he was elected President of the Commission of Christian Churches of Argentina.
