Excessive consumption of chocolate increases the risk of developing cancer, said surgeon Lucas Nassif in an interview with Terra.
Nassif noted that the liver is responsible for the metabolism of all foods absorbed by a person, and chocolate contains a large amount of sugar and fat. The organ begins to work more heavily. Ultimately, frequent consumption can lead to fatty liver disease. “This condition increases the risk of cirrhosis, fibrosis and even liver cancer,” he emphasized.
Among the symptoms of fatty liver disease, the doctor noted chronic fatigue, a feeling of heaviness after eating, discomfort in the right side of the abdomen, the accumulation of abdominal fat and increased levels of liver enzymes in blood tests.
