"Hraparak": The government intends to make the punishment for giving and receiving electoral bribes more severe

The “Hraparak” newspaper writes: “The authorities intend to further tighten the punishment provided for in the Criminal Code for giving and receiving electoral bribes, although it is not light even now.

According to the current norms, giving electoral bribes is punishable by up to 8 years in prison; according to the new proposal, it will be replaced by up to 10 years in prison. And for receiving electoral bribes, for which the punishment was up to 7 years, up to 9 years in prison are envisaged.

Apparently, this bill will be adopted under an extraordinary regime and is probably intended to intimidate the opposition forces and their supporters, against whom fabricated bribery cases have been being prepared for about two months. In these cases, such absurd expressions are found as “they distributed electoral bribes under the guise of salary”, “they made a property promise of an unknown nature to an unknown person”.
