Stepan Asatryan, who was declared deposed and who had performed a "liturgy" in Hovhannavank on Sunday, is unaware of who performed the service with him in the church that day, in particular, he did not recognize Raphael, one of the scribes.
"I don't know him," the former clergyman said in an interview with Aysor.am .
"You are celebrating a liturgy, don't you know who is serving with you that day?" we asked Stepan Asatryan.
He also said that he doesn't call people to church to find out their political parties.
"The church is a suprapolitical structure and should not be interested in the party orientation of its believers at all," added Stepan Asatryan.
It should be noted that a photo of one of the scribes who participated in the Sunday "liturgy" at Hovhannavank was circulated on the Internet, and it was stated that he was a "false scribe."
It turns out that the young man is a member of the Civil Contract Party, but the fact that he is a "fake scribe" has been denied by Vahagn Aleksanyan, the vice-chairman of the Civil Contract Party.
He noted that Raphael was ordained as a scribe on December 25, 2018, by Archbishop Navasard Kchoyan, Vicar of the Ararat Patriarchal Diocese.
It should be noted that yesterday, Father Yesayi Artenyan, Director of the Information System of the Mother See, told Aysor.am that the deacons participating in that "liturgy" were not members of the Mother See.
Let us recall that on October 26, Stepan Asatryan performed a mock liturgy at Hovhannavank, which was attended by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and a group of CP members.
According to Pashinyan, it was a “liturgy of renewal.” He had announced that the “liturgy” at Hovhannavank would symbolize the start of the practical phase of the liberation of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
The "liturgy" has been declared illegal by the Mother See.
