Lawyer Aram Vardevanyan’s Facebook post: “On December 30, 2025, the obviously illegal prison detention imposed on Samvel Karapetyan since June 18 was replaced with house arrest and additional restrictions.

As is known, for the followers of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church, the Day of Remembrance of the Dead follows the Feast of Christmas and the Epiphany in January of each year. Like any follower of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church, it was extremely important for Samvel Karapetyan to take advantage of the opportunity to visit his father’s grave and mourn with his close relatives on the Day of Remembrance of the Dead. We had appealed to both the investigator and the prosecutor on this issue. Today it turned out that this petition was rejected.

The elementary perception of humanity, even in the conditions of warring countries, is recognized, but political persecution in the case of Samvel Karapetyan knows no boundaries.”
