US President Donald Trump met with Japan's newly elected Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo. The two leaders signed agreements on rare earth metals and a "new golden age" of alliance between the countries.
According to "Armenpress", this was reported by the BBC. The new agreement envisages promoting the supply and production of rare earth metals between the United States and Japan. The two countries have agreed to cooperate by implementing policies, trade measures and coordinated investments that will boost the production of minerals.
The BBC recalls that Washington wants to diversify its sources of supply of important minerals in order to reduce dependence on China. Recently, during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit in Malaysia, Trump also signed agreements on rare earth metals with Malaysia, Thailand and Australia.
The two leaders also signed an agreement on a "new golden age," which builds on agreements signed by the two allies earlier this year on strategic investments and mutual national interests.
The newly signed document says that Trump and Takaichi “noted with appreciation the rapid and sustained efforts of both countries and reaffirmed their strong commitment to implementing this wonderful agreement.” The agreement will help both countries “strengthen economic security, promote economic growth, and thereby contribute to continued global prosperity.”
It also said that Trump and Takaichi spoke with relevant officials to "take further steps toward a new golden age of the ever-evolving U.S.-Japan alliance."
While signing documents on the "New Golden Age" and rare earth metals, Donald Trump declared that Japan is a US ally "at the highest level." He also emphasized the importance of Takaichi's victory in the election as Japan's first female prime minister.
