US President Donald Trump presented PRC President Xi Jinping with a sculpture depicting a bald eagle—one of the symbols of the United States.
"It is a great honor for me to present a gift to PRC President Xi Jinping in the spirit of friendship; it was created by an outstanding American sculptor—one of the world's greatest—and its design was developed with the personal involvement of US First Lady Melania and myself," the US President said at the White House, speaking prior to the state reception held for the Chinese leader. He displayed the sculpture, which depicts a large bird with outstretched wings perched on a branch.
"The bald eagle is the national symbol of the United States, representing America's free and noble spirit. We hope a wonderful place will be found for it in Beijing." "This is in your honor," Trump added, addressing Xi Jinping. The US President did not specify the sculptor's name or the material from which the statue is made.
