18-year-old Davit Minasyan, who was detained after the incident at Yerevan’s St. Anna Church, is being transferred to the Abovyan Penitentiary Institution so that his education is not interrupted. Nona Navikyan, the spokesperson for the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, reported this in an interview with Sputnik Armenia.
Earlier, Davit’s lawyer Lusine Martirosyan reported that her client is being transferred from the Armavir Penitentiary Institution to the Abovyan Penitentiary Institution.
“The transfer is based on the best interests of the person, the age of the person deprived of his liberty and the importance of ensuring the continuity of secondary education have been taken into account,” Navikyan said.
It should be added that 18-year-old Davit Minasyan is in the 12th grade of high school. The Abovyan Penitentiary is intended for women and minors, but the law allows a person up to 21 years of age to remain in the Abovyan Penitentiary after becoming an adult, if he has demonstrated positive behavior. Minors receive school education right in the penitentiary.
Let us recall that on March 29, an incident occurred in the St. Anna Church with the participation of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan. After some time, 18-year-old twin brothers David and Michael Minasyan and public figure Gevorg Gevorgyan were arrested on suspicion of hooliganism and interfering in the lawful official and political activities of an official. 3 people were arrested.
On March 30, investigators searched the boys’ apartment. On March 31, it became known that criminal proceedings had been initiated against the 3 boys arrested after the incident in the church on charges of hooliganism and interfering with the lawful official or political activities of an official. The preventive measure chosen for one of the twin brothers, Mikayel Minasyan and Gevorg Gevorgyan, was a ban on absence and a bail of 5 million drams.
And on April 1, by the decision of Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan, David Minasyan was detained for 2 months.
