The secondary school in the border village of Kut in the Gegharkunik region had only one first-grader this year. In an interview with Panorama.am, the school director Aghvan Kostanyan noted that the only first-grader in the village of Kut was welcomed very well, as is customary.

“We officially welcomed him, played the anthem, with good wishes, the teacher gave him his first textbooks. The Knowledge Day passed normally, everyone in his own class.

The school is small, with 10 students. According to the director, the small number is due to the decrease in the birth rate in the village.

“Graduates graduate, leave. We have four, five or three graduates. There are no births in the village, this is the reason why we have one student. Young people do not get married, we have no births,” Kostanyan noted with regret.

Let us remind you that according to the data currently available in the Education Management Information System, about 415 thousand schoolchildren are attending school this year. About 33 thousand of them have registered to attend first grade as of August 31.
