The “Telecommunication Week 2026” has launched in Yerevan, bringing together telecommunications operators, state and regulatory bodies, international technology organizations, as well as educational institutions to discuss the sector’s development priorities, innovations, and the digital future.

Within the framework of the week, Viva CEO Armen Avetisyan participated in the panel discussion “From Communication to Digital Services: The New Role of Operators.”

The panel discussion was also attended by Deputy Minister of High-Tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia Ruben Simonyan, Director of “Efnet” Company Gevorg Yengibaryan, President of “Internet Society” NGO Igor Mkrtumyan, and Director of “AyNet” Company Davit Abrahamyan.

The discussion focused on the changing role of telecommunications operators and the development of digital services, in particular, changes in customer experience and expectations, ensuring a reliable and secure digital environment, the use of 5G, IoT and smart solutions, as well as the formation of new revenue models.

“In the modern world, where data centers, cloud technologies and artificial intelligence are developing at an unprecedented speed, it is necessary to clearly understand that the infrastructure of communication operators continues to remain at the heart of the digital future. It is precisely telecommunications networks that form the fundamental environment without which large-scale computing, stable cloud services and a full-fledged digital economy are impossible.

In this context, IoT-based solutions are becoming an important tool for integrating physical objects with digital systems. By providing continuous data collection and analysis in real time, IoT enables more efficient management of resources: energy, water, infrastructure and production processes. This contributes to increased operational efficiency, cost reduction and sustainable development.

At the same time, the real-scale application of IoT is most effective when it is based on high-speed, reliable and uninterrupted connectivity. It is 5G and 5G+ technologies that form the infrastructure on which IoT systems can operate in real time, with minimal delays and rapid transmission of large volumes of data. This significantly increases the efficiency of cloud services, big data platforms and artificial intelligence-based solutions, accelerating data collection and analysis processes and ensuring more accurate and operational decisions.

Viva continues to develop its digital ecosystem by investing in new generation infrastructure and integrated digital solutions. The Viva IoT Hub platform provides a full chain of services from device connectivity to data analysis, supporting the digital transformation of businesses. In parallel, Viva is actively investing in the development of the 5G network in Armenia, considering it as one of the important foundations of the country's digital economy. The frequency bands acquired by Viva, which are intended for the introduction of 5G, create additional potential for the rapid development of modern digital services, including new generation IoT solutions.

Another important advantage of Viva's infrastructure is the presence of diversified international fiber-optic channels in the European direction. Geographically independent routes and equipment redundancy ensure high data transmission reliability and stability, increasing the stability and continuity of digital services, which today have become a vital infrastructure for the economy and society," noted Armen Avetisyan, General Director of Viva.

The week also includes roundtable discussions, workshops, sectoral visits, as well as events dedicated to children's online safety and youth engagement, forming a platform for effective partnership and professional contacts.
