A competition has been announced for the position of director of Yerevan's "Saint Grigor the Illuminator" hospital, which will take place on September 2. It seemed that the issue was resolved, the acting director, former CP MP Narek Zeynalyan, who obediently carried out Pashinyan's SMS request - resigned from the mandate, received a reward for his obedience from Pashinyan and months later was appointed acting director, so that the director could finally be appointed through a formal competition.
However, it turns out that passions have flared up around this position. In addition to Zeynalyan, the president of the National Medical Chamber Narek Vanesyan and the active critic of the healthcare sector, a doctor by profession, and the president of the “Right to Health” NGO Anush Poghosyan have also been nominated for the position of director. According to some information, Minister Anahit Avanesyan and former Minister Arsen Torosyan are trying to influence the selection committee and introduce their candidate, Narek Vanesyan.
He had been the head of the Nubarashen Psychiatric Hospital of the National Center for Mental Health Protection since 2018, from which he was dismissed with a bang for his unbalanced behavior during a meeting with lecturers of the Medical University. In addition, he is facing a criminal case, according to which he demanded money from a citizen to get a job as the director of the Ijevan Medical Center, and most importantly, during the COVID period, Arsen Torosyan appointed him as the organizer of healthcare and head of quarantine sites in Yerevan.
Vanesyan currently works at the Football Federation of Armenia, holding the position of Head of the FFA Medical Department.
The thing is that both Torosyan and Avanesyan have been in constant conflict with Narek Zeynalyan, who, while claiming the position of minister, criticized both former and current ministers. Torosyan especially has serious reasons to hinder Zeynalyan, since the abuses committed during the Covid period may come to light, since “Lusavorich” was the largest Covid clinic, and the state allocated huge sums of money to that medical institution.
