The persecution of businessman Samvel Karapetyan in Armenia is unacceptable, such actions by the authorities undermine trust in institutions and harm the unity of the Armenian people, Anahit Asatryan, Vice President of the Armenian National Union of Sweden, told RIA Novosti.
“Regarding the situation of Samvel Karapetyan, we consider it unacceptable to persecute a person who has made a huge contribution to the development of both Artsakh (the Armenian name for Nagorno-Karabakh – ed.) and Armenia. His support for humanitarian and infrastructure programs, assistance in difficult times, as well as his constant devotion to Armenian national values, deserve respect, not criminal prosecution,” Asatryan wrote in response to a written inquiry from RIA Novosti.
According to him, such steps by the authorities not only undermine public trust in state institutions, but also endanger the unity of the Armenian people.
