The situation in the Middle East will not be an obstacle to continuing the dialogue between Russia and the United States, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"These are different directions. We are partners with Iran, we have developed a strategic partnership, but we are also working to restore our relations with the United States. Both these directions are very important for us," Peskov said during the "Moscow. Kremlin. Putin" program on Rossiya-1 TV.
The Kremlin representative added that much depends on the dialogue with the United States.
"The possibility of reaching a settlement in many other areas also depends on our dialogue with the Americans. That is why it is unlikely that anything will interfere with this, one is not an obstacle to the other (US strikes on Iran and the situation in the Middle East - ed.)," Peskov said, answering the question of how the events unfolding in the Middle East could affect the process of normalizing Russian-American relations.
At the same time, the Russian presidential spokesman assessed the US strikes on Iran, noting: "They were unprecedented. No one yet clearly understands the consequences that will occur, and they will be very negative."
