The Ministry of Defense of Armenia confirmed that they have changed the emblem of the Army of the Republic of Armenia.

The Ministry of Defense has released a video, where it is noted that they are presenting the new, modernized emblem of the Armenian Army.

Referring to the reasons for the need to modernize the emblem, the Ministry of Defense notes: “The previous emblem of the Armed Forces of Armenia, approved in 2001, had a number of heraldic, morphological, and ideological shortcomings. Therefore, in the context of the transformation of the army, the process of revising the emblem’s modernization has been initiated.

“The main image of the previous emblem, the eagle, has significant heraldic and aesthetic shortcomings. The eagle is depicted with a closed beak. In heraldry, a closed beak is considered a calm, non-combat state, often perceived as a lifeless image, which contradicts the essence of the army. The main body of the eagle, the torso, is missing. It is fused into the overall surface, creating an eagle-shaped image assembled only from feathers. The eagle's limbs, claws, and weapons are missing. This creates the appearance of a dismembered, powerless, vulnerable creature, which is unacceptable for an army symbol.

In the previous coat of arms, the sword is placed behind the shield, which in heraldry is a sign of unpreparedness for defense. However, the mission of the Army of the Republic of Armenia is to be constantly ready to defend the sovereign territory and territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia.

In the previous version of the coat of arms, there is a gross error in the depiction of the state flag. It is presented not as a single whole, but fragmented into separate ribbons or pieces. Such a distortion of the flag can be symbolically interpreted as a divided, fragmented, or incomplete statehood.

Description of the new coat of arms of the Army of the Republic of Armenia

The central image of the new coat of arms, the eagle, has been reinterpreted. It is depicted in a full, living and complete embodiment. The head, body, wings and claws are clearly visible, overcoming the shortcomings of the previous coat of arms.

The eagle’s beak is open, which in heraldry symbolizes vitality, readiness, vigilance, the right to speak and power. As a crowned predator, the eagle’s clear and dynamic posture directly symbolizes the vigilance and fighting spirit of the Army of the Republic of Armenia. It embodies the army’s mission to protect the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia.

In the new coat of arms, the image of the eagle is reinforced by the golden sun shining behind it, the rays of which clearly unfold in a circle. The sun here acts as a symbol of light and vitality, embodying the idea of the permanence of the Armenian people. The chosen gold color is not accidental - it is the color of eternity, prosperity and power. The location of the sun on the eagle's back emphasizes the sacred values that are under the auspices and protection of the state, the eagle. A round golden shield is placed on the eagle's chest, decorated with the Armenian eight-pointed sun cross, and in the center - a seed as a centripetal symbol of the Army of the Republic of Armenia.

The seed embodies future soldiers who will sprout in the forge of war, become trees and fruits, and give seed again in the name of eternal continuity. The shield on the eagle is a symbol of protection.

The eagle holds weapons of historical significance in its two claws: on the left - a golden sword, and on the right - the Holy Cross of the Guardian of the Army of the Republic of Armenia Ashot Yerkat, the military talisman of the Armenian Army. The sword in the eagle's claw symbolizes the always ready status.

The upper part of the coat of arms depicts the tricolor of the state flag of Armenia and the map of the Republic of Armenia. These elements harmoniously connect the coat of arms with Armenia, emphasizing that the army is one of the guarantors of security.

The reforms envisaged by the transformation concept in the army of the Republic of Armenia continue.
