"Yerevan should reform the constitution of the republic". Aliev
In order to sign a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Yerevan must reform the constitution of the republic, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stated again at the meeting with the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Helga Schmid.
He emphasized Azerbaijan's commitment to the peace agenda and noted the importance of amending the Armenian Constitution and ending territorial claims against Azerbaijan on constitutional grounds in order to sign a peace treaty.
The sides also discussed demining works. According to Aliyev, as a result of the so-called "military aggression" of Armenia against Azerbaijan, many mines were left in the Azerbaijani territories, and as a result of the explosions, about 370 people were killed and injured.
In June, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan proposed to Azerbaijan to create a mechanism to investigate ceasefire violations. In January, Pashinyan proposed to Baku to sign an agreement on mutual arms control. The peace agreement with Azerbaijan can be concluded by November 2024, the head of Armenia said in May. Aliyev also noticed a positive trend in the work being done towards the peace process with Armenia.
