Alen Ghevondyan arrested for writing a status on Facebook

We wrote that opposition political scientist Alen Ghevondyan was arrested today. It turns out that the Criminal Investigation Department has charged him for writing a status on Facebook.

The Criminal Investigation Department tells us: “They made public calls on their Facebook accounts to seize power and forcibly overthrow the constitutional order.

Concerning the reports received, the General Department for the Investigation of Crimes Against the State, Fundamentals of the Constitutional Order and Public Security of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia initiated 2 criminal proceedings, within the framework of which public criminal prosecution was initiated against T.V. and A.Gh. under Part 2 of Article 422 of the Criminal Code (public calls to seize power and forcibly overthrow the constitutional order using information or communication technologies).

Detention was chosen as a preventive measure against T.V., a search warrant was issued, and A.Gh. was arrested in order to submit a preventive measure to the court.

The preliminary investigation of the criminal proceedings is ongoing.
