The Zhoghovurd daily writes: “Since 2023, the Armenian law enforcement system has exclusively targeted the Yerevan Municipality within the framework of the anti-corruption show, creating the impression that the fight against corruption is limited only to the prosecution of the city authorities. The Municipality tells us that there is a growing belief within that the arrests are being made without justification, and Mayor Tigran Avinyan views them in the context of political guidance.

The arrest of the head of the municipal utility company, which took place yesterday, was considered the last straw, according to sources. Discontent is growing within the city authorities, and rumors are circulating that the mayor will most likely decide to launch a counterattack, delivering a powerful counterattack to the participants in the political games.

Moreover, it is reported that the mayor instructed his staff the previous day to report every request made by any representative of the law enforcement system, even the smallest, exclusively to him, compiling a detailed list. This may indicate that the municipality is preparing to move from defensive to more proactive actions.

Let us remind you that since 2023, criminal cases have been initiated against two deputy mayors of Yerevan, several heads of departments, as well as the head of the Arabkir administrative district. However, most of the proceedings are in an indefinite, frozen state, while the persons involved in these cases continue to be kept in custody at all costs. These developments are assessed in the Yerevan Municipality not as legal processes, but as a means of political pressure, which may change the logic of the Municipality's further actions.
