The “Hraparak” newspaper writes: “About 10 days ago, the Anti-Corruption Committee issued a statement on the completion and sending to court of another criminal proceeding against Serzh Sargsyan, in which he is accused of “receiving bribes in particularly large amounts and illegally participating in entrepreneurial activities.” The entire accusation is based on “S. S.’s proxy M. B.” We found out that M. B. is Mikhail Baghdasarov, who died on August 21, 2020.
It may seem strange how the Anti-Corruption Committee concluded a criminal case 5 years after a person’s death, building the accusation solely on the actions and testimony of a deceased person, but that’s not the whole irony of this case. It turns out that after the change of power in 2018, when Pashinyan’s government was feverishly searching for evidence to try former presidents, they targeted Mika Baghdasarov, who was upset about what happened to Armavia and accused Serzh Sargsyan and his son-in-law of taking away that privileged business from him.
Baghdasarov initially testified against Serzh Sargsyan, but during a confrontation with the former president, he stated that he was speechless in Armenian, and that he was not provided with a translator during interrogation, so he did not understand what the investigators were asking and gave incorrect answers.
After that, until his death, Baghdasarov did not change that last testimony, and that was the reason why they were unable to send the case to court at that time. And now the time has come to put on a show and exploit a unique testimony of a dead man.
