Pope Leo XIV's position on migration issues, especially in America, is worrying, US Vice President J.D. Vance said, TASS reports.

"I think some of the Vatican's statements on migration issues are worrying. Ultimately, I disagree with them," Vance said in an interview with Fox News.

Vance, who is a devout Catholic, added that in his contacts with church leaders he tries to convince them of the soundness of American policy on migration. "I tell them that we are not hostile on this issue. I call for dialogue, but I remind them that mass migration has its negative consequences," the US vice president noted.

Earlier, Pope Leo XIV has repeatedly criticized the anti-immigration campaign announced by US President Donald Trump. The pontiff also called on Washington to reconsider its approach to migrants and point out excessive cruelty in the implementation of the anti-immigrant campaign.
