The 2026 FIFA World Cup third-place play-off was held at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, USA, where the national teams of France and England faced each other. In a high-scoring and incredibly dramatic match, Thomas Tuchel's team won 6:4, winning the bronze medals of the tournament.
From the very beginning of the match, the English took the initiative, finishing the half with an impressive 4:0. Declan Rice opened the scoring in the 3rd minute, and defender Ezri Konsa doubled it in the 18th minute. After that, Bukayo Saka came to the fore: the English winger scored in the 37th and 45+1st minutes, making it a double.
In the second half, after the whistle of Venezuelan referee Jesus Valenzuela, the French tried the impossible - to return to the game. In the 48th minute, Kylian Mbappe reduced the score difference, and six minutes later Bradley Barcola scored the second goal of the French. In the 66th minute, Mbappe also scored a double, restoring the intrigue and reducing the score difference to a minimum (3:4).
However, England was able to stop the pressure of the opponent and put an end to this crazy confrontation. In the 87th minute, Saka, having correctly converted the penalty, scored a hat-trick. Although in the 90th + 6th minute, Ousmane Dembele reduced the difference again, two minutes later Jude Bellingham scored the sixth goal of the English, setting the final score of the match at 6:4.
Thus, the English team became the bronze medalist of the World Cup, and France was content with fourth place. Let us remind you that the title of the winner of the 2026 World Cup will be contested in the final between the teams of Spain and Argentina.
