Head of the Ministry of Defense of Iran. The development of military cooperation with India will contribute to the security of the region
The Minister of Defense of Iran, Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani stated that the development of defense and military cooperation between Iran and India can contribute to the increase of security and stability in the region.
At a meeting with the Indian Defense Minister Giridhar Araman in Astana, Ashtiani said that the two countries are located in a strategically important region, Press TV reports.
The meeting took place within the framework of the 21st session of defense ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
"Many opportunities for cooperation between Tehran and New Delhi can be used to establish peace and security in the sensitive region of West Asia and the Indian subcontinent," he added.
The head of the Iranian Defense Ministry emphasized that Tehran and New Delhi should strengthen cooperation to prevent the resurgence of the ISIS terrorist group, calling on both sides to hold additional consultations on the events taking place in Afghanistan.
In his turn, the Indian Defense Minister expressed condolences over the killing of Iranian military advisers in Syria and emphasized the importance of strengthening security and peace in the region.
Aramanen called for the development of bilateral cooperation in the maritime sector, participation in naval exercises, defense research, as well as cooperation in the field of education, Mehr reports.
